Be Yourz — Capsule Wardrobe Guide | beyourz.com
An ordered procedure: empty, sort into keep, mend and let go, list the gaps, shop only the list.
The wardrobe audit is an ordered procedure, not a mood. It runs in four steps, in this order: empty the closet completely, sort every item into keep, mend and let go, list the gaps the keep pile leaves, and shop only the list. The whole thing takes one afternoon.
The first step is the emptying. Every item comes out — nothing is left behind on a rail or in a drawer — because the audit only works if you see the whole inventory at once. What you find is usually less than you expected and more repetitive than you remembered.
The second step is the sorting into three piles. Keep is what fits the capsule and works with the rest. Mend is what is worth repairing. Let go is what does not fit the capsule. The three piles are not a purge: the keep pile is the foundation the capsule is built on.
On narrow screens, swipe or scroll the plate sideways.
The third step is listing the gaps. Only once the keep pile is settled do you write down, item by item, what the capsule still lacks. This list is the only thing you shop against, and it is what stops a capsule from becoming another crowded closet.
The fourth step is the shopping, and it happens last. Every purchase answers a gap you have already named, which is the discipline that keeps the capsule at its working size of about 25 to 40 pieces including shoes and outerwear.
The audit is repeated seasonally, because the capsule is seasonal too. The same four steps — empty, sort, list gaps, shop only the list — run again when the weather and the work dress code change, and the cost-per-wear test is applied to every piece before it enters the capsule.
